Massive Mine Expansion Threatens Groundwater

The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is currently considering the swift approval of a massive sand mine and waste processing facility directly on top of some of the East End’s most vulnerable drinking water reserves.¬†Despite numerous concerns raised by Group for the East End, local community members, the Suffolk County Department of Health, and the Town of Southampton they have decided to not complete an Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed project. Without immediate action this proposal will very likely be approved and serious risks to our drinking water will be authorized for at least three more decades. ¬†

Please take a moment to send a letter to the DEC, urging them to reconsider this designation and make protection and restoration of our water quality a priority.
